CALGARY, Canada – People traveling with budget Canadian airline WestJet were asked what they wanted for Christmas as they boarded their flight from Toronto and Hamilton.

The passengers were delighted when they were handed the presents, each wrapped and with a name tag, when they collected their luggage in Calgary.

The gifts were handed out by a man dressed as Santa Claus and they included an Android tablet for a young boy and a widescreen TV for a young family.

WestJet spokesperson Richard Bartrem said: “This year, we wanted to turn our holiday campaign into a tradition by doing something that’s never been done ever before.

“Inspired by the notion of real-time giving, we wanted to surprise our guests with meaningful, personalised gifts at a moment when they least expected them.”

A video of the passengers receiving their presents has been posted on YouTube and so far received more than two million hits.

One man, who did not realise who was being filmed for a Christmas video, only asked for socks an underwear in his Dear Santa letter.

The airline has promised to donate flights to families in need as more people watch it.
