CHICAGO, Illinois – William M. Daley submitted his request to resign from Boeing’s board of directors, since US President Barack Obama appointed him to be his new chief of staff.

“I’m convinced that he’ll help us in our mission of growing our economy,” said President Obama. Daley responded to his new boss, “This team will not let you down, nor the nation.”

“All of us at Boeing thank Bill for his contributions to our company and wish him well as he tackles this next phase of his exemplary public service career,” said Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Jim McNerney.

The resignation is effective as of January 7. Daley, 62, joined the board in 2006. His public career includes serving as President Bill Clinton’s Commerce secretary from January 1997 to July 2000.
